日常の会話で天気のことを話すとき、よく strong wind とか powerful typhoon などと使っていますが、同じような意味の intense はあまり使ったことがありません。

strong ： 「強い」を表わす最も一般的な語

「強い」を表わす最も一般的な語になります。

物理的強度や力強さ（例：a strong wind）を基本的な意味として、そこから、

感情（例：strong feeling）やつながりの強さ（例：a strong link）に言い及んだり、さらには、影響力（例：a strong influence）を表したりもします。

powerful ： 影響力が大きい

人や物に影響を及ぼす力があることを、基本的な意味としています。

などの例にその特徴が表れています。

intense ： 性質や程度が非常に強い

strong や powerful に比べると、対象の範囲がより限定されています。

物理的な熱や光の強さ（the intense heat）を表現したり、感情や思想、行動の激しさや強さ（intense competition）などを表します。
