in timeとon timeの違い

I got there /in time.
I got there /on time.

前置詞「in」と「on」の語感を知っている人には、何をいまさら・・というところでしょうね。読み飛ばしてください。

意味の違いとしては、
in time　 なら 「間に合って、遅れずに」
on time　なら 「時間通りに、定刻に」
という意味になります。

なので、
The train arrived at the station /on time.
電車は定刻通り駅に着きました。

とは言いますが、
The train arrived at the station /in time.
とは言いません。

in time for ～　　～に間に合うように、、～に遅れずに
on time for ～　《be ～》時間通り～にいる

・I was just in time for the last bus.
　最終バスにちょうど間に合いました。

・I arrived on time for an appointment /yesterday.
　昨日、約束の時間通りに着いた。
