ceremony, ritual「儀式」意味の違い、使い分け

今回は「儀式」の同意語。ceremony, ritual の2つの語です。
意味の違いや使い方、使い分けなどについてまとめました。

event は「出来事、事件、行事」ですが、ceremony と ritual は「儀式」。
それぞれどんな「儀式」で、どのような違いがあるのでしょうか？

ceremony ： 厳粛な儀式

成人式、結婚式､葬式などのように公式な場、あるいは宗教的な場において、一定の手続きを踏んで、一度だけ行われるもの に対して使われます。儀式に伴う華やかさや荘厳さを暗示しています。

・The ceremony will take place tonight.
　その儀式は今晩催されます。

・There is no need to stand on ceremony with us.
　私たちに他人行儀になさることは少しもありません。

・There is not much ceremony to these meetings.
　これらの会合にはあまり形式張ったことはしません。

・Many Americans hold wedding ceremonies outside.
　多＜のアメリカ人が屋外で結婚式を挙げます｡

ritual ： 堅苦しい儀式

礼拝やお祈りなど、習慣的で繰り返し何度も行われるものに使われます。ceremony も ritual も儀式ですが、ritual の方が伝統的、宗教的な意味合いが強く、堅苦しいイメージの言葉になります。

例文：
・All religions have their own specific rituals.
　宗教は皆それぞれ固有の儀式を持っています。

・She never buys anything without the ritual of bargaining.
　彼女は物を買う時は儀式のように必ず値切ります。

・About 250 monks and believers participated in the ritual.
　約250人の僧侶と信者が儀式に参加しました。

・Many American families make ａ ritual of praying before meals.
　多くのアメリカの家庭では食事の前のお祈りを習慣としている。
